For most people, getting a tattoo is a lifelong commitment, so the choice to remove it can also be a big decision. The removal process means taking time out and making plans around the treatment and healing.
The most common question we get asked is “how long does tattoo removal take?”
Hopefully this article helps answer this for you;
Firstly, a tattoo cannot be removed in one session, and unfortunately anyone that tells you they can do this is telling you what you probably want to hear. These are many factors that play a part in how many sessions it takes to remove a tattoo, and can normally be anywhere between 2-12 sessions.
Each appointment must be a minimum of 6 weeks apart; however, we recommend anywhere between 6-12 weeks at a time.
Below are just some of the factors that affect the number of sessions needed for tattoo removal;
- The colours of the tattoo (darker colours actually seem to remove quicker than lighter)
- The age of the tattoo
- Your immune system and how strong it is to flush out the broken particles
- The standard of the tattoo i.e. professional v pin and stick etc.
- The size and intricacy of the tattoo
At Laser Perfection we use a Q-Switch ND YAG which utilises the heat from the laser to break down the particles in the skin and has been proven to be effective when removing tattoos.
