What Not To Do Before Your Tattoo Removal Appointment?

So, if you’re reading this blog, it probably means you’re looking to have a tattoo removed. The good news is; firstly, we can help and secondly the solutions for tattoo removal are more effective than ever before.

Before attending your laser removal appointments, you are likely to feel a mix of emotions, this is totally normal. To help you become prepared, here are just some of the things NOT TO DO before your appointment;

DO NOT ATTEMPT FORMS OF NON-LASER REMOVAL

Do not try to ‘speed up’ the removal process by turning to other forms of tattoo removal. Most of these options are dangerous and can lead to permanent scarring. These include, but are not limited to; Dermabrasion, Salabrasion, Acid and Tattoo-Removal Creams.

DO NOT FORGET MEDICATIONS

As with a range of other treatments, care must be taken. However, with certain medical conditions and medication, laser may either not be possible, or you may need to visit your GP first for them to assess you. This is because some medications may interact negatively with your session. A medical form will be completed before your session begins/during your consultation. This will determine whether we think it is safe to proceed with laser removal.

DO NOT USE MECHANICAL EPILATION

An epilator is a form of electric device that is used to remove hair from the skin by pulling multiple hairs out of the body at the same time. Though this is a preferred form of hair removal, it can alter the healing process and therefore we ask you do not use it for six weeks before your first treatment and for six weeks after your last treatment.

DO NOT GET A SPRAY TAN OR USE FAKE TAN

Although you may not think it, spray tans and fake tan can affect your tattoo removal and therefore we ask you do not use this throughout your treatments. If your body has more absorbed products, it could mean you have to spend more time and money on laser removal when actually it may have only taken a few sessions. Unfortunately, some fake tans also contain products that react badly with laser treatment and can create pigmentation in the skin.

DO NOT EXPOSE YOUR TATTOO TO SUNLIGHT

Although you may think it is common sense, staying out the sun is a big deal with approaching your tattoo removal session and the healing process thereafter. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation can increase the natural production of various substances in the body – such as melanin and Vitamin D. This can affect the way your body responds to the light waves that are used in lasers.
